While this group of learners are being left behind, low-income gifted students are falling even further behind their higher-income classmates. In this course, Karen Zeske, Ph.D. highlights the difficulty in identifying and addressing the needs of gifted students, especially those in low-income populations. Dr. Zeske outlines successful program models and educational practices, with a focus on how to implement these strategies for maximum impact. Characteristics of successful programs and expected student outcomes are also tied to specific strategies in the classroom.

In this 1-hour course, you will learn how to:

  • Teach self-confidence, motivation, organization skills, and system awareness strategies

Presenter Bio

Dr. Karen Zeske, Gifted and Advanced Academic Coordinator in Irving ISD, has been serving gifted learners since 2000. Her research interests include gifted advocacy, gifted education for historically underserved populations, and the role of families in gifted education. She has served in the Leadership Division and in various capacities in TAGT.
