Differentiated instruction has developed a bad reputation in the Advanced Placement (AP) world. This is unfortunate because every student, from the advanced learner to the SPED learner, can benefit when educators have a firm grasp on how to use differentiation.

Description

What if AP classrooms are not actually geared toward meeting the needs of gifted students? Differentiation is the key to engaging students across the learning spectrum, especially in the AP classroom; but many AP teachers avoid differentiating because they have false beliefs about how to use it, and how it can benefit their advanced learners.

In this 1-hour course, tackle the top three myths about differentiation:

  1. Colleges do not differentiate instruction
  2. Pre-AP and AP classes are already leveled and do not require differentiation
  3. Differentiation is meant to close performance gaps for struggling learners (or specifically for SPED classes)

78 reviews for Inquiry, Connection, Autonomy – Advanced Learners Will Advance With Differentiation

    1. David – Private Pay (verified owner)

The course was good. There were some ideas about differentiated instruction that I didn’t know.

    2. Graciela – FABENS ISD (verified owner)

Good examples given and clarifying ‘AP is not automatically or necessarily services or instruction for GT.

    3. Charlene – FABENS ISD (verified owner)

I liked that they spoke about AP classes and College courses.

    4. Lynsie – BEAUMONT ISD (verified owner)

very necessary for teaching advance learners

    5. Raul – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

      There is some useful information.

    6. Cynthia – PLANO ISD (verified owner)

Course makes a strong case for the necessity of differentiated instruction in pre-AP and AP classes. It does not provide enough practical, useful strategies for differentiating in an AP Calculus class.

    7. Mary – WYLIE ISD (verified owner)

It would have been better if there were specific examples on specific topics on how to differentiate.

    8. Abbi – TIPP CITY EXEMPTED VILLAGE (verified owner)

I thought it was a lot of teaching basics–like a general overview of what I learned in my undergraduate program

    9. Daniel – WESLACO ISD (verified owner)

Good strategies on how to differentiate

    10. Nianna – VALLEY VIEW ISD PHARR – REGION 01 (verified owner)

The most boring and ineffective use of my time with not many good takeaways. And it has an irrelevant quiz.
