In this course, participants will use children’s literature to help primary learners:
- Engage in creative thinking, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Better understand acceptance and individuality
- Practice problem-solving
- Develop visual and spatial thinking skills
Presenter Bio
Ashleigh Murphey is a Gifted and Talented teacher in Katy ISD at Rylander Elementary. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Education specializing in English as a Second Language and Gifted & Talented education from Baylor University. Then she continued her education at Vanderbilt-Peabody University where she earned a Masters of Education specializing in Gifted & Talented education. Murphey started her teaching career in Australia for two years and then moved to Vietnam for one year. Since her international school experience, she has been teaching in Katy ISD for five years
Nancy Bryant is a graduate of the University of Houston and has been teaching in gifted education for over 20 years. Her experience includes AP/GT English for 11th and 12th grades, 9th grade Pre-AP/GT English, and Challenge (Gifted Pull-Out program) for grades K-5. Bryant currently holds teaching certifications in English/Language Arts, Elementary EC-4, and the TEA Gifted and Talented endorsement. She loves working with students of all ages, and it is her goal to always challenge them to reach their full potential, both socially and academically.

I think the course was fine coming up with various different uses for children’s books. One suggestion would be fixing the audio as their was a large amount of cut out and loud pitches with the audio during the presentation. This did make it difficult to completely understand what was being said.
