Description

Excellent writing skills are essential for long-term success. In this course, you will learn how develop writing skills in your G/T students by learning to craft an AP language class around a central theme and pull many examples of modern and historical speech writing, essays, non-fiction, and literature around it. You’ll be equipped on how to translate each piece into writing assignments or projects that will challenge your students and build these crucial skills.

You will learn how to:

  • Create a central themes and tie-in multiple sub-themes
  • Tap into a student’s passion
  • Generate a classroom environment of active discussion and respectful debate
  • Challenge students to expand their thinking and grow in nuance, sophistication and grow in nuance, sophistication, and depth

    Presenter Bio

    Kathryn Pabst Schaeffer, Ed.D., is the Executive Director of Advanced Academic Services for Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. She completed her Ed.D. at Dallas Baptist University, received a Master of Arts in Teaching from The University of Texas at Dallas and completed her Gifted and Talented Lifetime Endorsement from The University of North Texas. Ms. Pabst Schaeffer often presents on gifted curriculum as well as Advanced Placement (AP) College Board programming. She is also the chair of the Research Division of the Texas Association for the Gifted & Talented (TAGT).
