Description
During this 1-hour course, Dr. Juntune shares the findings of research started at Texas A&M University and the interventions being implemented in El Paso ISD to change the way we view and serve gifted students from poverty.
In this course you will learn three steps to improving success rates for low SES:
- Mind Sketching: A teaching technique that encourages students to sketch out the concept behind their answer while they come up with the words to communicate it.
- Building Verbal Intelligence: Children living in poverty have a simple language structure and we must give them a complex language structure.
- How to design a Gifted Program Specifically For These Students

This was a very good and interesting training. It will enhance our ability to assist our students that lack the complex language and verbal memory.

I did enjoy this course, by Dr. Joyce Juntune, but Part II was not quite as effective in an on-line version as Part I, as much of it was active participation (sketching, discussing …).
Tamara – DEL VALLE ISD (verified owner) –
Fantastic and fascinating AND useful. I hope to be able to use these strategies with dyslexic students and low-level readers!!!

The difference between drawing and sketching was eye opening. I have used the idea before, but had not thought the differences in what I was asking the students to do.
