Description

Students who score well on the screening test are considered for special educational programming and their needs, interests, and abilities are matched with the services that the school offers. But what about talented students who slip through the cracks of current screening methods. In this 1-hour course David Lohman, Ph.D., shares tools to design a screening program that avoids the twin pitfalls of failing to identify students who should be included or wrongly including students who do not need special services.

Dr. Lohman provides:

  • Examples of exemplary practices
  • The difference between identification and selection
  • Distinctions between “gifted” and “talented”
  • The elements of screening
  • Common pitfalls illustrated using the CogAT Form 7 Screening Form

  1. Jyotsna – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

Learned different evaluation methods to identify talent.

  2. Dellanie – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

I did not like this course.

  3. Keith – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

Way way WAY too many slides used. It is easy to get lost in all of this. This felt like an infomercial for the company the speaker works for than giving me needed information to help my GT students,

  4. Janice – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

    I thought it was informative

  5. Brian – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

It contained quite a bit of information that I was not already aware of concerning test screening

  6. Nohemi – DONNA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT (verified owner)

I wish it had a transcript on the side to read what the professor is saying. Also some background, especially since I am not familiar with this. Make some interactive activities that we can use to check our knowledge along the way. On the last question if they could state there are more than one answer. When I got the answer wrong, it says I chose the wrong response, so I thought it was only for one answer and in fact I would need to choose several statements in the answer to be correct.

  7. Elizabeth – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

    Very informative

  8. Paul – PROSPER ISD (verified owner)

Not taught in simple language and ideas

  9. Peyton – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

I never quite understood what I was supposed to be learning in this course.

  10. Monica – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

It’s interesting to me because I like numbers and things like that, but it felt highly irrelevant to me as a teacher. Also, the reflection questions asked really big questions that required a lot of synthesizing ideas from different places in the presentation. I like that type of challenge, but I wouldn’t call it a good use of my time.
