Description

Students who score well on the screening test are considered for special educational programming and their needs, interests, and abilities are matched with the services that the school offers. But what about talented students who slip through the cracks of current screening methods. In this 1-hour course David Lohman, Ph.D., shares tools to design a screening program that avoids the twin pitfalls of failing to identify students who should be included or wrongly including students who do not need special services.

Dr. Lohman provides:

  • Examples of exemplary practices
  • The difference between identification and selection
  • Distinctions between “gifted” and “talented”
  • The elements of screening
  • Common pitfalls illustrated using the CogAT Form 7 Screening Form

448 reviews for Identifying Talent – Developing a More Effective and Inclusive Screening Process

  1. Juan – SPRING ISD (verified owner)

    It is not straightforward

  2. Tammara – CARDINAL LOCAL (verified owner)

I think this a very hard concept to get but it does give lots of information about the Cogat.

  3. Jennifer – PROSPER ISD (verified owner)

I feel like this course was helpful at times, but at other times it was too much information to follow.

  4. Andrea – BLANCHESTER LOCAL (verified owner)

Fairly technical and not useful for what I do which is : classroom eacher

  5. Elizabeth – BURLESON ISD (verified owner)

I hate to be negative, but this is not what I thought it would be. This training is not so much for general use in the classroom, but might be more beneficial if you are a specialist who works specifically on the testing aspect.

  6. Monica – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner)

    Long but interesting

  7. Patricia D. – MERCEDES ISD (verified owner)

This course was very technical and I feel it needed to be longer to explain better.

  8. Tremece – GRAND PRAIRIE ISD (verified owner)

    Lots of great info!

  9. Sara – CONROE ISD (verified owner)

I think it was valuable to understand why the CogAT test is a valuable assessment to help identiy Gifted and Talented children.

  10. Leigh Anne – PROSPER ISD (verified owner)

I would like for this be more interactive because the presentation had great information but maybe questions or feedback in each section instead of all at once.
