Description

Did you know you can probably trace your biggest challenges in gifted education back to social and political mistakes? For example, the No Child Left Behind Act was meant to increase support for at-risk and struggling students, but it resulted in a lack of focus and resources for G/T students. Though society and politics may be beyond your help, your gifted students are not! When you understand the roots of the problem, you can become an advocate for better G/T education.

In this 1-hour course, you will learn:

  • How high-stakes testing affects G/T students
  • The impact of the economy on gifted education
  • Pervasive myths about gifted students
  • How you can become an advocate

It is very important to understand that we must be advocates for the GT child. Our voices are vital. We should join groups like TAGT and encourage educators as well as parents to join.

  6. Mary – VAN WERT CITY (verified owner)

I did not find this helpful as an educator at all. It seemed a lot like the speaker was talking down to educators and assumed that we don’t know what we’re doing. She is not an educator and has no experience in education. I felt disrespected through most of this lecture. She said that we could go into a matrix and it would spit out a lesson plan for us. That’s not how it works, and so much more goes into it than that. She also assumed we didn’t know how to use Bloom’s taxonomy or how to make a lesson plan. I also felt that very little actual information was presented or that any of it was relevant to what I do. Several people in my family are “gifted.” It’s not that I don’t care, I just felt that it was a poor and condescending presentation.

  7. Corina – DEL VALLE ISD (verified owner)

    It was depressing.

  8. Rubi – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

Tt is an awesome look into how gt has changed, how it is going to change and what can be done to improve it.

  9. Aaron – GRAND PRAIRIE ISD (verified owner)

    Great course

  10. Jennifer – HILLSBORO CITY (verified owner)

The course seems a little outdated and I think the title of the course is misleading.
