Description

Though curriculum compacting can pose a challenge for many teachers, it offers many benefits as a form of differentiation for gifted learners. In this 1-hour course, presenters Tara Toft, the Coordinator for Advanced Academic Studies in Sandusky City Schools, and Dr. Julie McDonald, the Coordinator of Gifted Services for Huron City Schools, share the process for compacting curriculum to ensure mastery of grade level content standards and preparation for advanced standards in future years.

Presenter Bio

Dr. McDonald began her teaching career as a gifted intervention specialist almost 2 decades ago. She currently serves as the director of curriculum and instruction and coordinator of gifted services for Huron City Schools. Dr. McDonald has been the past chair of the Coordinator’s Division, presenting as numerous OAGC functions over the years. She enjoys presenting at national and international conferences. Julie earned her BS in Secondary Education, MEd in Special Education, and EdD in Leadership Studies with a focus on Gifted Education from Bowling Green State University.  

Tara Toft has 22 years of experience in education, including 7 years in gifted education. She currently serves as the principal of the Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies and the Coordinator for Advanced Academic Studies in Sandusky City Schools. Tara also serves as the Region 2 Representative for the OAGC Governing Board and as a member of the OAGC Conference Committee. She has presented at district parent events as well as state and national conferences. Tara earned an Associate of Arts from Cuyahoga Community College, a BA in Elementary Education, MA in Curriculum and Instruction, and Administrative License from Bowling Green State University, and endorsement in Gifted Education from Cleveland State University.
