Description

Creating complex material for students is different than just giving them more advanced work. In this course, education expert Vickie Briercheck guides teachers through the process of using assimilation, application, adaptation, and acquisition to incorporate complex material into their instruction. Educators will discover how to use frameworks of complexity to challenge students and broaden their learning.

This course is split into three modules that dive deeply into complexity and creative thinking in the classroom. In this 3-hour course, you will learn about:

  • Sandra Kaplan’s icons of depth and complexity
  • Differences between advanced work and complex work
  • Seven frameworks of complexity
  • Scaffolding techniques

Presenter Bio

Vickie Briercheck studied for her undergraduate degree at California University of Pennsylvania. She was awarded a Master’s Degree in 1988 in gifted education from Youngstown State University. She has been an educator of gifted students since 1983, serving as a teacher and coordinator. She is a past president of The Ohio Association for Gifted Children. The final three years of her career she served as an assistant principal. Now retired, she supervises student teachers for Malone University and continues to advocate for gifted students.
