Description

Have you completed previous trainings on the Depth and Complexity framework feeling excited to implement it in your classroom, only to realize that you need more practice using the framework with your own specific curriculum and content? This session is designed to model the integration of various components of Depth and Complexity into sample lessons.

In this lesson, Kim Tredick will walk you through the following elements:

  • A brief overview of the depth and complexity icons
  • A look at depth and complexity integrated lessons
  • Examples of iconic combinations and iconic pathways
  • Suggestions for how to create a differentiated task statement for your class
By the end of the lesson, you will feel very comfortable completing the following activities:
  • Employing all the elements of depth and complexity to differentiate student thinking about any core content
  • Employing all the elements of depth and complexity to promote self-questioning and evaluative thinking for students
  • Using 21st century learner skills in lessons and units that encourage students to think and problem-solve like disciplinarians and professionals

Presenter Bio

Kim Tredick is currently the Director of Student Support Services in Castaic School District in Southern California. She has served as lead curriculum writer for J Taylor Education over the past seven years and has been using Depth and Complexity for two decades as a teacher, principal, and district administrator. Kim is the author of the best-selling Differentiation Smart Reference Guide, which is used in over 30,000 classrooms. As one of the original participating educators during the first PD rollout of Depth and Complexity in the 1990s, Kim’s training provides teachers with practical best practices for using all the components of the D & C Framework.
