Sometimes we do professional development like Niagara Falls: We give people too much too quickly, and they end up choosing to do nothing. In this brief lesson from our Essentials series,  Joyce Juntune will introduce you to the “drip” method of professional development, a way to ease educators into new concepts and ideas for 15 minutes at a time.

Description

Professional development is a key component of any school. But how do you create a culture of growth and learning at your school instead of treating professional development like a stand-alone event that only happens a couple times a year?

In this lesson from our Essentials series, education consultant and former educator Joyce Juntune outlines the “drip” method of professional development, a way of providing ongoing education in 15-minute segments as a regular part of faculty meetings. Dr. Juntune covers the following in this brief but compelling lesson:

  • Best practices for how to make 15-minute professional development sessions successful
  • Important developmental reasons why the “drip” method is more effective at engaging faculty than other methods
  • Tips for how to ensure that when school representatives attend conferences, everyone benefits
We all want professional development that works. The “drip” method helps teachers teach better today than they did yesterday.
