Incorporating creativity into the classroom isn’t just about making art projects or decorations. It’s about teaching students to approach problems creatively and become richer, deeper thinkers.  Lisa Van Gemert, award-winning educational consultant, guides teachers through an in-depth look at how to bring creative instruction into their classrooms. This six-hour course, “Creativity and Instructional Strategies,” dives deep into what creativity is and how to use it in the classroom. 

Ms. Van Gemert uses data and research to explain the educational and personal benefits that students gain when they learn to think creatively. She addresses common myths about creativity, such as that it’s only useful for lower elementary grades or for certain subjects. After taking this course educators will have the resources, inspiration, and knowledge they need to make their classrooms engaging and exciting through creativity.

Presenter Bio

Lisa Van Gemert shares best practices in education with audiences around the world using a combination of neuropsychology, pedagogy, experience, humor, technology and sheer fun. She is an expert consult to television shows including Lifetime’s “Child Genius,” and a writer of award-winning lesson plans, as well as numerous published articles on social psychology and pedagogy and the book, Perfectionism: A Practical Guide to Managing Never Good Enough. A former teacher, school administrator, and Youth & Education Ambassador for Mensa, she shares resources for educators and parents on her website giftedguru.com and is co-founder with Ian Byrd of the Gifted Guild, a professional community for educators of the gifted. Lisa and her husband Steve are the parents of three sons and live in Arlington, Texas.

    This course was very long and too time consuming. It should be broken into chunks as teaachers get bored easily by looking at and doing the same thing (or what looks like) the same thing over and over for hours.

    I wanted to do more with creativity in my classroom, and I purposefully looked for work by Lisa Van Gemert. I was not disappointed. I walked away with numerous resources. I intentionally waited to complete the course until it was closer to summer so that it would be fresh in my mind, and I could begin to use the resources and plan for next year.
