Description

What’s the difference between tiering your classroom instruction and compacting it?

Lisa Van Gemert, M.Ed.T, describes it this way: Tiered instruction is a quintessential approach to differentiation, in which the same curriculum is tailored to different students’ abilities and interests. Compacting, on the other hand, involves giving a condensed version of your content to a student who has either mastered it already, or will be able to master it quickly.

In this 1-hour course, you will learn:

  • 6 steps for effective tiering
  • 8 simple rules for compacting
  • How to follow the interests of your GT students

110 reviews for Tiering and Compacting

  1. Brenda – CONROE ISD (verified owner)

Very interesting but the buffering of my internet at home was not helpful to say the least.

  2. Alissa – BELTON ISD (verified owner)

This is a more basic course for those that do not have experience with the topic. As always, van Gemert is amazing but the content is more basic.

  3. Toni – Private Pay (verified owner)

I had the pleasure of being in a session by Lisa Van Gemert at a gifted conference. She made such an impression that I have subsequently intentionally sought out her books and training sessions on line. Every summer for the past three years, my professional development has centered around her offerings because I ALWAYS take something back to my classroom. This training is no different. She is wonderful.

  4. Claudia – LOS FRESNOS CISD (verified owner)

This was a very informative session. I enjoyed seeing something that I’m already doing, with a different perspective.

  5. Trisha – COLUMBUS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT (verified owner)

    It was okay

  7. Cassandra – GARFIELD RE-2 (verified owner)

I think it was great and something that the information is something that every teacher could use. Just new ideas.

  8. Laura – GARFIELD RE-2 (verified owner)

    Nice

  9. Shannon – GARFIELD RE-2 (verified owner)

I really liked learning about the tiering of lessons. The ideas and examples were great, bu I would like additional help with planning a tiered lesson.

  10. Melanie – GARFIELD RE-2 (verified owner)

This is a great module to learn how to better meet students needs through tiering and compacting.
