Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, are potentially life-saving tools that work by providing an electrical shock to the heart, allowing it to resume its normal function. In this course, you will learn about AEDs, when an AED should be used, the chain of survival, and what state law has to say about the use of AED equipment.

While this course provides an introductory overview of AED equipment and uses, it does not replace the in-person training required by law for certification.

Properly trained staff and well-maintained, accessible Automated External Defibrillator equipment can be instrumental in saving the lives of students and staff on campus. This course provides an introductory overview of AED equipment and uses. It does not replace the in-person training required by law for certification.

Information presented is essentially accurate except for one slide (the 2nd “Cardiac Arrest” slide) which inaccurately presents Cardiac Arrest as “Death of heart muscle tissue due to the loss of blood supply.” That slide heading should be replaced with “Heart Attack”).
