Description
In this 1-hour course, Lori Comallie-Caplan will explain the biology behind overexcitabilities in gifted children, and give practical strategies to identify them and manage them within the classroom or home. Ms. Comallie-Caplan also focuses on giving gifted children understanding and tools to manage their own overexcitabilities for a lifetime.
You will learn how to:
- Name five characteristics of the biology of the gifted brain
- Describe each of five types of overexcitability
- Describe both the strengths and the problems that are associated with the five overexcitabilities
- Name at least three strategies for working with each overexcitability
This course is aligned with 2016 ODE Teacher Competencies d, e, and NAGC Teacher Preparation Standards 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, and 5.5.
Presenter Bio
Lori Comallie-Caplan is a New Mexico Licensed Master Social Worker and a Licensed Educational Diagnostician with a Masters Degree in Psychological Counseling. Additionally, she holds Advanced Certification for Mediation from the University of New Mexico School of Law. Ms. Comallie-Caplan has 30 plus years of experience in the field of counseling, coaching evaluation, mediation and educational consultation. She is best known for her work with gifted individuals through the lifespan and frequently provides professional development for school districts and mental health professionals in the social emotional needs of the gifted.

The task of moving the answers in the question identifying the 5 areas is misleading because the speaker said that BOTH emotional and intellectual worry about the well being of others. This is a misleading question due to what is stated in the lecture.
