How the PD to Practice System Works

The PD to Practice System is designed to work with our professional development library to ensure that teachers apply what they learn in our online courses to their classroom instruction, improving student learning and growing better teachers.

Step 1 – Take the Online Course:

Teachers complete an online course that they chose or that was assigned to them. Completion of the course is a prerequisite to Follow-Up Meeting 1.

Step 2 – Follow-Up Meeting 1

In a faculty meeting, department meeting, or PLC, teachers will:

  • Use the PD to Practice Leader’s Guide to discuss the strategies, tools, and techniques presented in the PD.
  • Discuss what they learned in the PD.
  • Develop action plans to use the strategies, tools, and techniques presented in the PD, including expected student outcomes and evaluation strategies.

Step 3 – Application

After Follow-Up Meeting 1, teachers will:

  • Create/modify lessons to include the strategies, tools, and techniques discussed during the first follow-up session.
  • Apply the new learning strategies/tools/techniques to their classroom instruction.
  • Keep notes on what worked and what didn’t for Follow-Up Meeting 2.

Step 4 – Follow-Up Meeting 2

In the second session, teachers will:

  • Share their experiences using the strategies, tools, and techniques.
  • Discuss which elements of the PD strategy worked and which elements didn’t work for them.
  • Share changes/modifications to the strategy that would make it more effective.

Note: The follow-up meeting can be led by an administrator, instructional specialist, or teacher leader.
